Frontal passage

A lot of artificial lighting last night at the Chesapeake inn. We had a great dinner with Grandma and Grandpa, who drove an hour to come meet us! We missed the Sigsbee, they had moored on the other side of the canal.

We ran a measly 33 miles today, which was about all we could handle on the lumpy Chesapeake. It's been gusting to 25 all morning. We finally tucked in to middle river. We're tucked into a nice hidey hole ("gunkholing" is the proper term) while we watch this cold front blow through.

Quite the party scene. We couldn't hang.

This is as close as we got to the Sigsbee. "Like ships passing in the night". The red light is someone messing about on deck, preparing for their departure.

Another nice sunrise. This is coming out of the C and D canal.

Another lighthouse. Just cuz.

These photos just don't do the weather justice. It was a short, lumpy chop that we had to bash into. We are happy with the progress we made today. 33 miles isn't a ton, but it's all we had hoped for, for today. We wanted to get tucked in early, before the frontal passage.

Buttoned up in middle river, MD.

Look at that wind shift. Our oversized Manson supreme with 60' of chain didn't move an inch. Makes you sleep better at night, knowing you've got a little more anchor than you probably really need.

Nothing too crazy, gusts to 22 in the creek, just a lot of wind and a big shift in direction with the frontal passage. Hopefully that's it and we'll have a downwind and down swell run down the Chesapeake tomorrow.
