A two-fer!

Ok, I missed a day in my updates, so here you go.

10/17/21 (Sunday)

We had friends visit! And bring their tots aboard! Always good to see people you know. Always too brief though. After french toast and bagels, we dropped them off and left our cozy Sue Creek for the wild Chesapeake. Winds were nw 20-25 gusts to 30 (depending on which forecast you looked at). We clocked a gust at 35kts at one point. Almost the entire trip was down wind. 71 nasty miles got us to Solomons, MD right at sunset.

The buy boat "half shell" coming out of Solomon's.

The white cliffs of Dover! Where are we?? Oh yeah, Chesapeake.

Maizey was trying to wedge herself in a corner to stop the rocking.

Lighthouse, Chesapeake style.

I told you, windy.

We went under the big bridge (s).

Em drove. I took photos.

More lighthouse.

A bone in her teeth, indeed.

Lighthouse number...5?
Departure from Sue Creek had me thinking I should make a Primus reference. "My name is Mud."

Day two! Today! 10/18/21

Another long day, banging down the Chesapeake in gusts to 30. We crossed the Potomac, saw a submarine, got salty, and clogged fuel filters like it was our job.

The boogers that came out of our fuel filters. The tank is low, only 25 gallons left, and we've been shaking it furiously for the last two days.

Leaving Solomon's at dawn, our high beams are on. There have been crab pots everywhere in the Chesapeake. Huh. Strange. Crab pots in the Chesapeake...

Sunrise, always a good photo.

Em is optimistic for the day! Thumbs up!

Rocking and rolling. Down swell and down wind almost the whole way.

Maizey is making a call. "Turn the windenmaker off!!"

A submarine! In mobjack bay!

A cute little push boat (tug boat).

A much less cute, war ship in Newport news.

An itty bitty push boat. Half under water with the waves.

And a final cute tugboat, because Em liked it.

I'll leave you with this gem:

Tomorrow: the ICW begins!

  1. My daughter can really sing! Mazie looks like she needs a big hug and a sedative.

  2. Thanks for having us over on Sunday morning! Good luck as you start on the ICW tomorrow. Very cool you saw the Half Shell in Solomans. Good to see her running.

  3. Glad to get the two-fer, we've called off the Coast Guard. Great video and the story telling through the eyes of Maizey dog. 2022 Lighthouse Calendar in the works? DAD.
