Going somewhere?

"The decision to flee came suddenly. Or maybe not. Maybe I had planned it all along, subconsciously waiting for the right moment." - Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Hunter S. Thompson.

We're moving to the Florida keys. We're moving Volans to the Florida keys. It's about 1800 miles by water. Down Long Island sound, through the city, offshore of Jersey, up the Delaware, down the Chesapeake, and down "the ditch" (the Intercoastal waterway) we go!

Fuel and oil filters. We will put two seasons worth of engine hours (and associated maintenance) on the boat over the next month or so. With unknown availabilities at our ports of call, it's prudent to load up now. We know we'll need it.

The past week has been a blur of catching up with friends and family, loading supplies, offloading unnecessary items (no need for snow shoes!), logistical challenges (insurance, shipping cars, new job paperwork, old job paperwork) and the list goes on and on and on.

Here's both storage and repair in one: Removal of a leaking 70 gallon diesel tank. Potentially an environmental hazard, as well as a huge waste of space.
Some serious pitting can be seen on the backside of the tank, here. (having chopped it out of the boat after two joyful days.

This week, we'll top up the fuel and water tanks, load groceries (or "stores"), change insurance coverage, and a myriad of other loose ends before we take off. Our last day of work in RI is Friday, Oct 4th, 2021!

It's bad luck to say where a ship is going, or when, so I'll leave you with a cliffhanger....TUNE IN NEXT TIME!
